Thredbo's Opening Weekend Celebrations

Kick off season 2013 in true alpine style with a weekend packed with a mountain of good times.

Mt Kosciuszko Guided Walk: every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday until 28 April 2013

Walk to the top of Australia!

When you visit the Kosciuszko National Park a trip to the top of Australia is a must. Take in the amazing views and soak up the fresh alpine air, see the alpine widflowers in full bloom across the high plains. The guide provides an informative talk on the unique flora, fauna, geological features and the history of the area. Those who reach the summit receive a Souvenir Certificate.

Guided walks from Thredbo to the Summit of Mt Kosciuszko run every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from October 27 to April 28 (excluding Christmas Day). Cost is $42 per adult and just $84 per family (2 adults and up to 3 children).

Snowy Ride: 3-4 November 2012

The Snowy Ride is a motorcycle event run annually in the Alpine Region of NSW with the aim of involving motorcycle riders from all over Australia to raise money for Childhood Cancer Research.

It is also an opportunity for riders to enjoy a weekend away with their friends and family and to ride some of Australia’s best and most picturesque roads.

3 Peaks Challenge: 10 March 2013

Road Cycling - 1 Day Ultimate Challange, Falls Creek Victoria

This 235km road cycling event  starts and finishes at Falls Creek, circumnavigating Victoria’s Alpine Region in 3 major climbs: Tawonga Gap, Mt Hotham, and the beast that is the back side of Falls Creek.

The ultimate challenge is riding all 235km, but there are 2 other ride options available - the relay where riders can share the load with a friend and the 115km ride up to Falls Creek on the new Bogong High Plains Road.

Riders must be 16+ years of age to enter. Standard entry $289 (closes 8 February 2013).

Lake Jindabyne Flowing Festival: 16-17 February 2013

The 2013 Lake Jindabyne Dragon Boat Challenge will be held on Sunday 17thFebruary and looking to be the biggest yet. The Challenge is open to corporate, charity, novice, sports, juniors and your crew. No previous experience is necessary as training is provided on Saturday afternoon for all teams. All equipment will be provided and experienced helms will steer your boats.

There is also a market set up in Banjo Paterson Park for the day including handcrafts, general merchandise, farmers market produce, gourmet food stalls and carnival rides.

Dragon boat racing is an exciting and competitive water sport which has rapidly grown in popularity as a relatively new sport in Australia.  The forty foot long dragon boats are brightly painted and decorated with a dragons head and tail. Each crew has twenty paddlers 10 on each side and 2 abreast with the paddlers attacking the water as a team races the 200 metres with a drummer to keep time and a steerer to control the boat. All boats along with drummer and steerer will be provided along with pre training for all teams. Typically 4 - 6 boats in a race.

The races are exciting and spectacular adrenaline charged sprint. Dragon boating is by Nature a social sport requiring large numbers of people to work together. It develops strength and endurance as well as friendships.
